I am always surprised by how much colder and windier it is on the lake than it is while gassing up in town.  Could just  be wishful thinking and trying to be optimistic. When your hat blows under the boat it isn't too darn calm. We didn't get to fish long today with a baseball game on tap, but we managed to catch seven trout and three redfish in less than two hours.  We caught our fish on a chicken on a chain Salty Snack and a chartreuse flake Softdine XL.

At this point it looks like we will be canceling Wednesday due to the forecast of a stiff North wind.  Even if we were tough enough to weather the conditions that wind will blow out the area we were fishing.  I didn't realize that they were that new when I mentioned them, but I have gotten a jillion emails over the past few days.  I found mine at Outcast Tackle located next to Snooper's Paradise in Groves.

I cannot imagine the Sabine-Neches CCA Banquet not already being sold out, but I heard that was the case as late as yesterday. Rest assured...... They will sell out!  To confirm that rumor and possibly still buy a ticket you can simply drop by or call Darin Johnson over at Jorgensen Marine on 11th street in Beaumont.  I am betting this is probably too late as this is a well attended and much anticipated event every year!

Outcast Tackle got an order of Salty Snacks today!

More often than not, I am more surprised at how hard the wind is blowing about the time I hit East Pass than when I am gassing up in town, but that has not been the case the past two weeks.  The only question has been direction, not speed.  We have enjoyed some very decent days on both trout and reds, but you never know how dirty the water is going to be the following day.

The majority of our fish have been taken on a Fat Boy, Mirrodine XL or Assassin's new Salty Snack.  It is a soft plastic tail shaped like the Corky Devil that you rig on a worm hook.  One hook is enclosed with the three tails and they are pretty durable.  Because I only had a few, my clients fished with them while I fished a conventional Corky.  They initially pulled off a lot of fish before we started leaving more of the hook exposed.  Outcast Tackle in Groves was able to get some yesterday so I can now join in the fun!

One day we are finding our fish in 1 to 3 feet of water and the next day (sometimes the same day) the best bite is in 5 to 6 feet of water. We have also caught some trout on tails when that bite slows down. I don't know why I just quit using proven colors, but we have done well with red shad lately.  Five inch tails have worked better than the shorter tails.

We are basically drifting flats and putting the Talon down as soon as we get a bite.  We can usually catch 2 or 3 fish before having to move again.  Hopefully this wind will slow down a little this weekend!
