Too nice not to fish!

I planned on doing something responsible this morning, but gave up on that idea when I walked outside about 7:00.  It was cool with a light north wind and an hour later Gene and I were throwing Swim Baits and tails at flounder.  We caught some really nice flounder in less than a half day and some solid trout as well.  The trout were a welcomed surprise.

The flounder were on the bank, but the trout were in 3 to 4 feet of water.  The water was much clearer in the lake than it was in the lake, but it wasn't bad in the lake.  The water temperature was 82 degrees and we fished an outgoing tide all morning.  We never saw any shrimp, but the finger mullet and shad were all over the place.   As a matter of fact, we caught several fish under slicks!

I was surprised that we didn't accidentally catch a few redfish, but not disappointed.  The further south you ran the rougher it got.  I did talk with two other groups that caught good numbers of over sized redfish somewhere on the south end of the lake.  One group was drifting with live bait and the other boat was fishing a 3/4 ounce Rat-L-Trap.

It seems like I haven't posted in forever and the reason is that I haven't posted in forever!  I unexpectedly got dry docked by what I hope proves to be a minor bump in the road health wise and between trout that I just can't figure out and a narrow minded Dr. that doesn't understand how important fishing is.....I have had little to report.  We have had a very decent red and flounder bite in the Game Reserve which does me no good for guiding, but it beats not fishing at all. 

We have been able to find a few small trout chasing shad, but in spite of some good water conditions and little or no wind most days, it has been reds and flounder or nothing.  It looks like we are going to get our first front of the year this weekend and that should either get things going or really put us in a panic strut. I intend on being there to find out.
